Sportop Queens Strive for Perfection at Shattuck

FARIBAULT, MN — The Sportop Midget AA Queens returned to Shattuck St. Mary’s where, last year, the boasted a 3-1 record in the four game Jamboree. The Queens would start off with a Friday night matchup against Pembina Valley where Molly Kunnas would put on a show scoring in the opening period, the second period and then completing the hattrick in the third period. Pembina, for their part would manage a goal but nothing else as the Queens skated to a 3-1 win.

Saturday morning the Sportop Queens would meet host Shattuck St. Mary’s. Kailey Swerhun would put the Queens on the board first on a setup from Brenna Nicol and Jocelyn Wojciechowski. Shattuck would answer with a powerplay goal in the second but a pair of goals from Lucy Newman would be the difference in another 3-1 victory.

In the evening, the Pilot Mound Buffaloes were next on the slate. Jamie Ricklefs broke the ice in the first period on a feed from Makenzie Lehto. The 1-0 lead would hold until midway through the third when Pilot Mound would tie the game but Brynne Lambert would answer back getting the puck from Kendra Fortin and scoring in the last minutes of play. Queens goalie Kamryn Sandelovich would allow only the one goal en route to a 2-1 win.

On Sunday morning the Queens will look to improve upon last year’s record by going a perfect 4-0 as they play Gentry Academy at 10:30 am Central time.
