Gridlink Atom Queens Start 1-1 at Cupid Classic

BLOOMINGTON, MN — The Gridlink Atom Queens are in Bloomington, Minnesota this weekend for the Cupid Classic Tournament competing in the 10U-A division.

The Atoms would get started on Thursday evening against the Lakeville IceCats. After Ava Hrubeniuk opened the scoring early on a setup play from Sidney Ritson, the IceCats would respond with a couple goals of their own in the first period to take a 2-1 lead. The one-game lead held for the majority of the game until Lakeville sank an empty net goal to take a 3-1 victory in a pretty even game (shots were 10-9 for the Queens).

On Friday, Thunder Bay would look to get into the win column against Edina, a perennial provider of competitive hockey teams. After a scoreless first, the Queens struck first as Ritson would bury the puck after a pass from Olivia Vinet on the powerplay and then Ritson got her second of the game shortly after, this time with Shayla Stokaluk drawing a helper on the goal. Brylee Illson’s shutout bid would get spoiled with just 21 seconds remaining in the game but it’d be the only goal Edina managed as the Queens took it 2-1.

On Saturday afternoon at 2:15pm, Thunder Bay will meet up with Prior Lake followed by a date with Shakopee at 7:15pm. Sunday’s matchups will be determined after Saturday’s results.
