Day 3 of Cupid Classic

BLOOMINGTON, MN — Saturday night, the Peewee Queens met Elk River in their final match of pool play. Taylee Marks opened scoring for Thunder Bay in the second period and was followed up by Brynn Hannula who buried a goal as well. Goalie Alexandra Young got her second straight shutout start as the Queens skated to a 2-0 victory.

The Peewees record would get them into the semifinals on Sunday morning against Rosemount and got off to a great start when Kingston Golding scored on a powerplay and then Annie Mallon extended the lead after a setup feed from Bridget Cameron. Rosemount, though, had all the answers as they’d climb back into the game scoring a goal in the second period and then two more in the third, dropping the Queens by a score of 3-2.

The loss to Rosemount, while ending the Peewees chance at Gold, still offered them an opportunity at Bronze against Woodbury. In the first period, Cameron would manage the only goal, giving Thunder Bay the lead. The second would be much the same, a single goal, again for the Queens off the stick of Karlyn Maguire-Stein. In the third period, the Peewees struck once more as Hannula scored. Alexandra Young, running on a 2-game shutout streak, would extend that streak to 3 games in a 3-0 win and a 3rd place finish in the Cupid Classic 12U-A division.

Meanwhile in the 10U-A division, the Gridlink Atom Queens took on Bloomington. Olivia Vinet drew first blood for the Queens in the first but Bloomington answered back with the equalizer. The tie held through two as Allie Attema stopped all shots that came her way. Late in the third, the Queens would retake the lead on a goal from Morgan BarenzAttema held the fort, leading her team to a 2-1 victory.
