Tough afternoon for Queens

Friday afternoon and evening games prove difficult for Queens teams.  The Sportop U18AA team had the difficult task of securing a win again Belleville in order to advance.  With the game tied 0-0 late in the 3rd, the Queens would pull netminder Wills in the hunt for the win.  Although they had many chances in the last 2 minutes, the game would end 0-0.  The second straight 0-0 tie would eliminate the team from advancing.

The Strasser & Lang U15AA team would look to get into the win column facing the Waterloo Ravens in an afternoon tilt.  The Ravens would get the better of the Queens squeaking out the 3-2 win.  

After a close loss this morning, the U15A team squared off against the Sudbury Wolves looking to secure their first win.  The Queens would be handed their second loss of the weekend, by a score of 4-1.  The team will need to secure wins in the next 2 games against Bluewater and Oakville on Saturday to advance.

The Half-Way Motors U18A Queens would jump out to a quick one goal lead in the first minute of the game against Sudbury Wolves.  The Wolves would respond quickly to tie the game at 1.  The Wolves would pull away and the game would end 5-1 in favour of the Wolves.

The Fat Guys Auto U13AA Queens looked to build on their morning win up against the highly ranked North York Storm.  The Queens battled tough, but penalty trouble caused issue.  The Queens would give up 3 goals with players in the box in the 4-1 loss.  The team will look to secure a quarter-final game with a win against London tomorrow.  

The U21A team would also suffer a loss in the 8:00pm night cap.  The team would lose 4-1 to the Flamborough Falcons.  The U21 team will look to rebound in a pair of games tomorrow against Guelph and St. Catherines.

 

OWHA Provincial Update

To kick off the weekend, the Sportop U18AA Queens suffered a 2-1 loss to the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins Thursday night.  Abby Wills making a number of saves to keep the score 1-1 late in the third, when the Dolphins scored on a delayed penalty with one-minute remaining on the clock.  The lone goal for the Queens came from Taylor Barenz.

The team would have a quick turn-around as they were back on the ice this morning at 8:15 with a match-up against the Guelph Jr. Gryphons.  The game would see each team exchange chances, but the goalies would steal the show.  Mykaila George stood tall in front of her teammates and earned a 0-0 shutout. 

The team looks for their first win this afternoon against Belleville at 2:15.

The remaining 5 Queens teams saw their first action this morning with mixed results. 

The Half Way Motors U18A team battled hard in a close game but would come up short, losing 1-0 to Central York Panthers.  They continue their tournament with a match-up against Sudbury this afternoon.

The Strasser Lang U15AA team jumped out to a quick start going up 1-0 again the Stoney Creek Sabres.  The Sabres would respond on a few Power Play goals and they would seal the deal in the third, beating the Queens 5-1.  The team looks to respond with an afternoon tilt against Waterloo.

The U15A team had an early morning match-up with Markham.  The game would see the Queens fall behind early 4-1.  The team would battle back to tie the game up at 4, but penalties would get the better of them and suffered a 5-4 defeat.  The late goal in the third, while down two players would be the deciding factor.  The team will have some time to refocus, before they hit the ice again this evening at 7:00pm against Sudbury.

The Fat Guys Auto U13AA Queens would get the first win of the weekend.  Up 1-0 going into the third period the team would score on the power play and then seal the win with an empty net goal.  The 3-0 win would see Abbey Petersen secure the shutout in net over the Guelph Jr Gryphons.

The U21 team would see their first action against North York Storm.  Chole Skead would lead the way with a hat-trick in the 6-1 win.  Other goals coming from Doucet, Illott and Armstrong.  Camryn Williams picked up the win in net.

Both the U13AA and U21A teams look to continue their winning ways later today.  U13AA team will take on North York in an afternoon tilt, while the U21 team will play Markdale at 8:00pm.

  

Queens off to OWHA Provincial Tournament

The Thunder Bay Queens are sending 6 teams to the Ontario Womens Hockey Association Provincial Tournament to be held Apr 7-10 in the GTA.  The Queens teams will represent the W-55 Western Region. 

The action gets underway Thursday evening with the U18AA Sportop Queens taking on the Etobicoke Jr Dolphins at 7:30pm.
