THUNDER BAY – The Staal U11 Thunder Bay Queens and BFL Canada U15A Queens both return home from Minnesota with Gold.

Coming off of a tournament win on New Year’s Eve, the Staal U11 Thunder Bay Queens were right back at it playing this past weekend in the Minnesota Winter Storm.  The team went undefeated 4-0, to capture their second straight Tournament Championship. Emma Prior finished the weekend as the top player in goals and point with a total of 13 points, followed by her line mates Avery Williamson with 8 points and Amy Coley with 6 points.  The team came out on top 5-2 in the finals against Roseville-Mahtomedi to bring home their second championship this season.  The Staal U11 Queens have a 10-4-2 record vs their counterparts from Minnesota.  Next up for the team is the Nipigon Tournament in February.

Equally, the BFL Canada U15A Thunder Queens take home the gold from the Skate for the Roses tournament this weekend in Stillwater, Minnesota.  The U15A Thunder Bay Queens are proving to be a force this season notching their third tournament win this year.  Head Coach Scott Wrigley stated that it was a team effort, getting contributions from all players to go undefeated and taking home the championship.  The team will be on the road again in a few weeks competing in the Cabin Fever Tournament February 2-4, 2024.

Lastly, to close out the weekend the U22 Thunder Bay Queens travelled to Winnipeg where they would face 3 new opponents from the Manitoba Women’s Junior Hockey League.  Coming off of four wins last weekend at home when the MWJHL Polar Ice and Silvertips made the trip to Thunder Bay to participate in the Northern Boreal Select Series, the U22 Queens were eager to meet their new opponents.  In game one, the team would face the fourth place Gray Owls, opening the weekend with a 6-3 win.  The second matchup with the Western Predators, third in the MWJHL standings would prove to be a nail biter with the Queens finding the equalizer with 15 seconds left in the third at 1-1, sending the game into overtime.  The game remained undecided after 5 minutes of overtime, and a 3-person shootout, it would take another 2 rounds to settle the score with the Predators taking the win.  To close out the exhibition weekend, the Queens would meet the second place Prairie Blaze.  Another closely contested matchup with the Blaze securing a win with less than a minute left to play in the third period.

THUNDER BAY – Three Thunder Bay Queen’s teams will be competing on home ice this weekend.
